Sage Donald Copeland – Obituary

Dr. Sage Donald Copeland, 88, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018.

Dr. Copeland was born in Walker County and was raised in Birmingham. He attended The University of Alabama and graduated from Auburn University and The University of Alabama college of Medicine.He practiced OB/GYN as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. before completing a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at University Hospitals in Birmingham. He and his family then moved to Decatur where he practiced radiology for the next 32 years.

Dr. Copeland was a longtime faithful member of First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed reading, golf, tennis and spending time with his children and grandchildren, but his greatest enjoyment in life came with the time he spent with his beloved Emo.

Dr. Copeland was preceded in death by his wife, Emogene Kinney Copeland; daughter, Sharon Copeland Gamble; parents, Roy and Mabel Copeland and siblings, Peggy Jennings and Judson Copeland.

Survivors include sons, Steve Copeland (Joan) and Kin Copeland (Ann); daughter, Julianne Copeland O’Hara (Vann); grandchildren, Sage Copeland (Bailey), Katie Daggett (Jeremy), Chris Copeland (April), Jackson Gamble, Dr. Georgia Gamble, Jonathan Copeland, Matt Copeland, Ben Copeland, Lindsay Copeland, Kathleen O’Hara and Hattie O’Hara; five great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 3 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2018 at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund or Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation.
