On Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, following a brief illness, David Franklin Snoddy, 76, also affectionately known to his daughter and granddaughters as “Pa,” passed away peacefully at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Woodlands, Texas with his loved ones by his side.

David was born on April 3, 1941, to Vernon and Clyde Snoddy in Rogersville, Alabama. He lived most of his life in Rogersville with the exception of a few years when he lived in Huntsville, Alabama where he met the love of his life, Betty, while working at A and P. They were married on August 10, 1963, and were inseparable for 54 years. Their daughter, Pamela, was born in 1966, and they then moved back to Rogersville in 1969 to be closer to David’s family. David worked several years at East Lauderdale Gas and retired on December 4, 2007, from the Alabama Public Service Commission where he worked as a pipeline safety investigator for the last 21 years of his career.

David was loved and respected by many people not only because he was fun to be around, but because he would go out of his way to do things for others. Always one to give of himself, David was actively involved in his community and volunteered his time at the Rogersville Methodist Fish and Loaves food pantry and at the Rogersville Senior Center.

David’s four granddaughters were his pride and joy and bragged about them to everyone he met. He had a passion for westerns and Alabama football. His hobbies included fishing, being a champion at card games, and listening to the Atlanta Braves on the radio while relaxing on the back porch.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Faye Bass Snoddy; mother, Vernon Smitherman Snoddy; father, Clyde Patrick Snoddy; brothers, Crafton Snoddy, Johnny Snoddy, Virgil Snoddy, and Aralee Snoddy; and sister, Annie Mae Waddell.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Snoddy Phillips; granddaughters, Abby, Ashley, Madison, and Morgan Phillips; brother, Clyde Snoddy; and sisters, Frances Ingrum, Sara Alexander, Shirley Smith, and Doris Bates.

Mr. Snoddy’s visitation will be held at Rogersville United Methodist Church on Friday, Feb. 23, from 11:30 a.m. 1 p.m. with funeral service immediately following. Burial will be in Civitan Cemetery. Brother Robert Lancaster will be officiating. Pallbearers are Pat Ingrum, Jeff Ingrum, Terry Ingrum, Phillip Alexander, Jeremy Ritter, Justin Ritter, and Heath Holdbrooks; honorary, Jamey Cosby, Van Holland, and Bryan Butler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity or the Fish and Loaves Food Pantry of the Rogersville United Methodist Church.
