Susan Shackelford Gray Buchanan – Obituary

Susan Shackelford Gray Buchanan, also lovingly known as “Susie” “Baby” or “Wooz”, passed away on Monday, February 19, at her residence, following a sudden illness.

Susie was born July 10, 1957, in Columbia, the daughter of the late Billy Joe Gray and Josie Shackelford Gray. On May 15, 1976, she married Dale Buchanan. Susie was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a gifted artist and some of her art work is on display at the Mt. Pleasant Museum. Susie was an avid Tennessee Vols fan. She was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Dale, of Mt. Pleasant; one son, Cody (Katelyn) Buchanan of Columbia; one grandson, River Heath Buchanan of Columbia; two sisters, Lynne (Ray) Jett of Pulaski and Laurie (Randy) Winchester of Mt. Pleasant; a sister-in-law, Debbie Gray of Columbia; two brothers-in-law, Johnny (Wendy) Buchanan and Jeff (Shannon) Buchanan, both of Columbia; numerous nieces and nephews and several special friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Gray and Robert Scott Gray.

Funeral services for Susie will be conducted Friday, February 23, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Randy McNeece officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until time of the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ray Jett, Jim Winchester, Justin Buchanan, Will Buchanan, Randy Winchester, Johnny Buchanan and Jeff Buchanan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the trust fund for her grandson, River.
