Bettie “Jane” Mann Gooch – Obituary

 Bettie “Jane” Mann Gooch, 89, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Huntsville Hospital after a brief illness.

Jane, a native of Paris, TN, was born on September 3, 1928 to Dudley and Dora Mann. A resident of Huntsville, Al for the past 58 years, Jane retired from her position of Supervisor of Marketing and Business with South Central Bell/AT&T after 22 years, where she was instrumental in implementing the first telecommunications on Redstone Arsenal for the Space Program in Huntsville, Alabama. She served two terms as past president of Telephone Pioneers of America.  She was a founding/charter member of Valley United Methodist Church.

Her passion for volunteering led her to serve Burritt Museum 35 years, Harrison Brothers Hardware 15 years and Mended Hearts with Huntsville Hospital 15 years.

Jane was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Ray Gooch, her son, David Gooch and two brothers, Joseph Mann and Earl Mann. She leaves behind her loving family, daughters, Dawn Hall (Samuel) and Mary Jane Whitehead, both of Huntsville; daughter-in-law, Denise Gooch of Vancouver, Washington; grandsons, Samuel Hall and Colin Gooch, both of Huntsville; granddaughter, Courtney Gooch, of Huntingdon Beach, California; great-grandsons, Asher, Dawson and Braeden; great-granddaughter, Louise Kinsella; sister, Beth Skelley of Jackson, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held in the church at Burritt on the Mountain at 1 p.m. Friday, with graveside service following at Madison City Cemetery.
