Ernest Lester Lamberth, Sr., 90, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday, February 17th.  Lester was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Ella Ruth Wheeler.  He is survived by his son, Ernest Lester Lamberth II of Charleston, SC; daughters, Lynda Vranek of Arlington, VA, and Kristin Henson of Morris Plains, NJ; their spouses; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Born to the late Grover and Mattie Lamberth of Rosalie, AL, Lester (Les) was a graduate of Pisgah High School and served in the US Navy during World War II as a radio operator for the Underwater Demolition Teams (UDTs).  Following marriage to Ella Ruth in 1947, Lester and his family moved throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic where he worked as an air traffic controller for the Civil Aeronautics Administration and as a shift supervisor for DuPont Chemical Company. After returning to North Alabama in the early 1970s, Lester received a bachelor’s degree from UAH and taught history at Albertville High School and served as principal of Swearingen School.  Lester joined the TVA as an engineering aid at Bellefonte Nuclear Plant from which he retired in 1989.  Lester and Ella Ruth were active members of First Baptist Church in Scottsboro.  Lester pursued many interests, including amateur radio for which he was the first licensed radio operator in Jackson County.  A gifted athlete, he played tennis, softball, baseball, enjoyed fishing, and was an avid golfer.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23rd, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with the memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
