Betty Sue Sellers Harris – Obituary

Betty Sue Sellers Harris, 88, of Decatur, passed away at home on February 15, 2018. She was

born on January 20, 1930, in Sylacauga, Alabama, to Sarah Emma Sellers and Gordon Walter

Sellers. Mrs. Harris was raised in Sylacauga, Alabama. She was a graduate of the Ida V.

Moffet School of Nursing in Birmingham, Alabama and received her BS degree from the

University of Alabama.

She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Huel Harris (Bob) after college graduation and

moved to Decatur where they settled and raised their family. She was a lifetime active member

of First United Methodist Church in Decatur, served as a  volunteer in the community  with the Decatur Junior Service League and her church. Her life was dedicated to her family, her church and herfriends. She had a servant’s calling as a nurse, a mother and a friend. Her incredible capacity for caring and selflessness was experienced by all who knew her.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Huel Harris, and a grandson,

Barnes F. Lovelace, III. She is survived by her daughters Laura Harris Norman (Jim), Amanda

Lovelace, Bobbie Harris Skelton (Keith), Huel Harris (Debra) and Parks Harris (Denise) all of

Decatur; her grandchildren Caroline Norman Harper (Steve), Robert Norman (Leah), Wiley

Lovelace, Anna Skelton Oletti (AJ), Webb Harris of Decatur, and Emily Skelton Carrere (Park) of New Orleans, Louisiana; great grandchildren Mary Emma Harper, Reed Oletti, Louise Oletti,

Sellers Oletti, Jack Carrere, Wells Carrere and Eleanor Norman.

 

Service will be on Wednesday, February 21, at First United Methodist Church in Decatur at 2

  1. There will be no visitation. Graveside services for family will be at Decatur City Cemetery

immediately following the service at the church.

 

Pallbearers will be Jim Norman, Keith Skelton, Robert Norman, Steve Harper, AJ Oletti, Wiley

Lovelace, and Webb Harris.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Murphree, Dr. William Sims, Dr. Lloyd Nix, Dr. Malcolm

Prewitt, Fred Underwood, Dr. Ed Kirby, Tom Earley, Dan David, and Dr. Lawrence Ford.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Decatur First United Methodist

Church or Hospice of the Valley. Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family.
