William H. (Billy) Turman Sr. – Obituary

William H. (Billy) Turman Sr., 84, of Florence, Alabama passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018. He was born in Summertown, Tennessee on May 31, 1933.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maggie Turman; sisters Joyce Mitchell, Anne Marman; and brothers, John M. Turman Jr. and James Turman; daughter-in-law, Judy Turman; his mother-in-law, Irma Cox Moore; and father-in-law, Joe B. Moore.

Surviving is his loving wife of 65 years, Jo Ann Moore Turman; son, William H. (Bill) Turman Jr., and wife Carey; granddaughter, April M. Turman; brother, Bobby L. Turman (Brenda), Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; sister, Beverly J. Bulman (Jay), Sheffield, Alabama; loving family members of his wife, Lewis E. Moore (Sherry), Billy Ray Moore (Neta), Susie York (Wayne); and many “special” nieces and nephews; and stepgrandchildren, Kelly Singleton and Kevin Burton.

Billy was a graduate of Sheffield High School, Class of 1951. After graduation he honorably served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. McGowan destroyer during the Korean War. He retired from TVA as a maintenance supervisor in 1991. Billy loved Alabama football and fishing. He loved his family and church family. He loved the singers at Cox Boulevard Church of Christ and enjoyed singing with them.

His visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 at Cox Boulevard Church of Christ from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. with the funeral service following. Brother Larry Kilpatrick and Steve Condra will officiate with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.

Pallbearers will be Sid Dobbs, Darrin York, Russ Blackwell, Mark Mathes, Nelson Cassidy, and Billy Ray Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Ellard Greene, Billy Banks, Horace Cleveland, Lewis E. Moore, Donny Cansler, Dr. Jack McLendon, and Stan Brook.

Thanks to Kindred Hospice and Dr. Jack McLendon for all of his kindness and care all of these many years. Thank you Norma and Melissa for your care and concern during this time; and a very special thank you to his caregiver Pat Pounders.
