James C. Hester – Obituary

James C. Hester, 84, of Leighton, formerly of Tuscumbia passed away on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 15th from 1 until 2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Bobby Amos officiating.

James retired as Director of Customer Relations from Sheffield Utilities and was a veteran of the Alabama National Guard. James was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir director at several area Baptist churches. He was a Gospel singer and sang in several quartets, groups, and as a soloist. He was known by all as a fine Christian man that was always committed to his faith and his family.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Hester; parents, Tom and Florence Hester; and sister, Shirley Sparkman.

James is survived by his wife, Mary Hester; son, Tony Hester (Ann Marie); stepdaughters, Sharon Goodwin and Teresa Mulling; four stepgrandchildren, Johnathan Goodwin, Matthew Mulling, Adam Mulling, Marcie Mulling Hill (Tyler); and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Weston Hill and Halle Hill.

Pallbearers will be Joe Garrett, Gary Wood, Shawn Hacker, Tom Ed Masterson, Bryant Brewer, and Corey Murray. Honorary pallbearers will be Athel Hacker, Ken Robbins, retired and present employees of Sheffield Utilities, members of Local 558, and Crestview Baptist Church.
