Matthew Garrett Anderson – Obituary

Matthew Garrett Anderson, 22, resident of Old Highway 99 in Columbia, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and Saturday from 1:00 – 2:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born May 6, 1995 in Davidson County, he was the son of Mark William Anderson and Cathy Lynn Voss Anderson of Columbia. He was a 2013 graduate of Spring Hill High School and attended Columbia State Community College. Matthewwas a real thrill seeker and never did anything half power. He enjoyed being outdoors, motorcycles, hanging out with friends and spending time with his nieces and nephew.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Leslie (Jimmy) Egerton of Columbia; brothers, Preston Anderson of Flint, Michigan, and Taylor Anderson of Columbia; paternal grandfather, John W. Anderson of Columbia; uncles, Thomas Anderson of Columbia, Kenneth Voss of Lawrenceburg, Larry (Judy) Voss of Lawrenceburg, Wendell (Judy) Voss of Columbia, Ronnie (Karen) Voss of Florence, Alabama; aunts, Jeanette (J.T.) Whitehead of Franklin and Gail (Charles) Browning of Ocala, Florida; nieces, Kali Foster, Maleah Egerton, Hailee Egerton, Emery Egerton, Charley Egerton; nephew, Kayden Collier; numerous cousins; and his golden retriever, Junior.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Marcia Anderson; and maternal grandparents, Roy & Georgia Voss.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Egerton, Jacob Voss, Tanner Wesson, Chase Mataruga, Aron Foote, and Blake Pewitt.
