James Aaron Smith – Obituary

Funeral for James Aaron Smith, 77, will be Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Leighton Baptist Church with visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Brother Mark Mayfield and Brother Greg Beasley will be officiating with interment to follow in Old Bethel Cemetery, Leighton.

Aaron was the only son of Floyd A. Smith, Sr. and Opal E. Summers Smith. Born September 11, 1940, he resided in Franklin and Colbert Counties all of his life. He graduated from Colbert County High School in 1959 and completed two years of military service with the U.S. Army with the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 43. Aaron accepted the Lord as his personal Lord and Saviour in August 1956. He was a member of the Leighton Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member and children’s church worker. He was employed with Reynolds Alloys Co. for 38 years.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jackie Wood Smith; brother, Floyd A. Smith, Jr., Kenneth and Billy Smith; and sisters, Gayle Smith and Helen Sherrod.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Beard, Steve Smith, Trevor Beard, Danny Herby, Tommy Smith, Dewayne Smith, Gary Wood and Doug Hampton. Honorary pallbearers will be Dewain Clement, Ernest Underwood and all the active and inactive deacons of Leighton Baptist Church, and all members of the Leighton Masonic Lodge No. 43.

He was a loving husband, brother and friend, and will he greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
