Doc was a wonderful Christian man who loved his wife, his family, his friends, his church family and above all, God. He was an honest, hard-working man who loved connecting with people wherever he went. He cared deeply for everyone in his life, but most of all, he cared for their souls. He saw potential in just about everyone he met and wanted to see them succeed and he did his best to help in any way he could.

He proudly served his country in WWII during the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After his service in the army, he met the love of his life and together they raised a wonderful, loving family. He was a faithful member of the Austinville Church of Christ where he served as an elder for many years. He was the manager and a salesman for Moore-Handley and retired after 33 years. He loved traveling with his wife, camping with friends and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was very proud of his family.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Bertha Rue Haraway Turner; son, Tommy Turner (Debbie); daughter, Lisa Crowe (Danny); grandsons Jason Turner (Lacy) and Steve Suter (Deanna); granddaughters Jennifer Crowe, Teri Kitchens (Ethan) and April Foster (Noel); six great-grandchildren; and two great-great -grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Modena Farley Turner and his six brothers, Bernie, Kyle, Arnold, Myra, Daniel and Ray.

Pallbearers will be Jason Turner, Steve Suter, Ethan Kitchens, Keith Johnson, Allan Dillard and Jerry Hall. Honorary Pallbearers will be Doyle Whitlow, Ray Robinson, Bob Pruitt, Duel Hammonds, Bobby Johnson and Gene Owens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans (108 Finley Drive NW, Decatur, Alabama 35601).

The family wishes to thank Decatur Morgan Homecare, the caregivers from Home Instead, the doctors, nurses and staff at Decatur Morgan Hospital and all the family and friends who loved and cared for our sweet Doc, Pop, Daddy and Pepaw.

“Don’t be sad for me…be happy that we had a life to share together.”-H.M. “Doc” Turner
