Flood Warning For The Shoals

THE SHOALS-Tennessee River at Florence AL is currently forecasted to reach minor flood stage tonight, February 11 or early tomorrow morning, February 12 and continue to rise over the next few days. TVA will continue to store water in the tributary reservoirs to reduce flows into the main stem of the Tennessee River.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville issued a Flood Warning for the Shoals:

“The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Alabama…

Tennessee River AT Florence affecting Colbert and Lauderdale
Counties.

The Flood Warning continues for the Tennessee River AT Florence.

* until Sunday February 18.

* At 12 PM Sunday the stage was 16.5 feet and rising.

* Flood Stage is 18.0 feet. * Minor Flooding is forecast.

* Forecast…Rise above Flood Stage by late this evening and crest near 19.5 feet by early Tuesday morning.

The river will fall below Flood Stage by late Saturday afternoon. * Impact…At 20.0 feet…Alabama State Highway 20 is flooded at the underpass below U.S. Highways 43 and 72. The underpass will likely be closed. * Flood history…This crest compares to a previous crest of 19.7 feet on Feb 10 2010.”

Safety message…Do not attempt to drive through a flooded road. The
depth of water is not always obvious. As little as two feet of water
will carry most cars away. Also…The road bed may be washed out
under the water…and you could be stranded or trapped.
