Governor Ivey Signs Proclamation Celebrating the Winter Olympics in the Republic of Korea

MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey signed a Proclamation for the Consul General of the Republic of Korea on February 6, 2018, at the State Capitol in Montgomery, Alabama.  The Proclamation celebrates the XXIII Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, the Republic of Korea, from February 9 through 25, 2018, and the XII Paralympic Winter Games from March 9 through 18, 2018.

Present at the Proclamation signing were Young-jun Kim, Consul General of the Republic of Korea; Nichelle Nix, Director of the Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs; Doh Ah Kim, Senior Community Liaison Specialist of the Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs; Dong Ryeol Choi, President & CEO of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama; Sohee Chong, President of the Korean American Association of Alabama; Meesoon Han, Executive Director of the Alabama-Korean Education and Economic Partnership; and Soo Seok Yang, Attorney at the Beasley Allen Law Firm.

Alabama values its relationship with the Republic of Korea, and the Proclamation states, in part: “[W]ith over 100 Korean companies operating in Alabama, the State welcomes future Korean corporations that seek to develop an economic partnership with Alabama,” and “[T]he motto for the Winter Olympic Games – Passion. Connected. – refers to a world in which everyone is connected with a shared passion for all that the Winter Olympic Games represent.”

The Alabama State Senate also passed Senate Resolution 47, which was sponsored by Senator Gerald Dial (R-AL 13th District) recognizing and congratulating the Republic of Korea on being the host of the XXIII Winter Olympic Games and the XII Paralympic Games.
