Willie Lou Tompkins Clay – Obituary

Willie Lou Tompkins Clay of Decatur passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 at River City Nursing home at the age of 90. Mrs. Clay was born July 20, 1927 to Ora and William Tompkins of Belgreen. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Roselawn Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the Roselawn Chapel at 2 p.m. with Jeff Sellers officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with family.

Mrs. Clay was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Roberson Clay; son, Donald Roberson Clay; sister, Betty Jean Hester; sister, Thelma Tompkins Cantrell; and brother, Cecil Thompkins.

Survivors include her son, Rickey Edwin (Kathy) Clay, Decatur; grandsons, Sam Clay, New York, Donald Roberson Clay Jr., Birmingham, Mary Margaret Gray, Birmingham, Galvin Gray, Decatur, Kathleen Gray, Auburn and several great-nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Clay was a certified public secretary and spent the entirety of her career working in this area at the Monsanto Chemical Plant until her retirement.

Mrs. Clay had a passion for her church, Ninth Street Methodist, where she served in several roles such as church secretary, treasurer and Sunday school leader. She was a devout Christian and her faith led her through life.

Pallbearers will be Dick Wilder, Kenneth Thomas, Randy Lott, Pat Hennessy, Mitch Patterson and James Dunn.
