Charles Ray Baker – Obituary

 Mr. Charles Ray Baker 77, passed from this life to be with his loving wife of 53 years, Claudine.  A Spencer resident, he was born December 28, 1940 in Warren County to A. P. Baker and Amanda Hillis Baker who preceded him in death.

He worked for Oster Corporation for 37 years and enjoyed working for Van Buren County in their solid waste department during his retirement years. He was a member of Spencer First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon since 1969.

Charles Ray touched so many lives in a positive way.  From his days as Spencer City Mayor to the many, many years of coaching little ones with the youth association and coaching our adult guys in softball to being a strong member of First Baptist Church.

Along with his mother and father he was preceded in death by wife Claudine Hayes Baker.

He is survived by his daughter Penny Baker of Spencer, Grandchildren; Haley (Drew) Townsend of Fortson, GA, Caleb Campbell of Youngstown, OH and Drew Campbell of Spencer, Great-Grandchildren; Hayes, Hallie Kate and Deacon Townsend of Fortson, GA., Brother; Bobby Baker of Pikeville, a large extended family and a host of friends.

Funeral Service will be held, Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Layne Funeral Home chapel in Spencer, TN at 4:00PM with a sunset burial to follow in the Spencer Town Cemetery. Bro. Nathan Haynes and Bro. Tracy Curtis officiating with remarks by Caleb Campbell.  The family will receive friends Wednesday Feb. 7th from 5 to 9pm and Thursday Feb 8th from 10:00AM till time of service.

The family request the Van Buren County High School Class of 1958 be Honorary Pall Bearers.
