FLORENCE – A recent report card form the State Department of Education shows the University of North Alabama’s Kilby Elementary School scored a 99 out of a possible 100 points, making it the highest scoring elementary school in Lauderdale county.

The DOE’s Education Report Card grades each school in the state on academic achievement, academic growth and student attendance.  The results were calculated using students’ performances on the ACT Aspire assessment, from the spring of 2017, in grades 3 – 6.

Kilby earned the maximum number of points allowed, or 100 percent in each area, except in the area of absenteeism.

“All stakeholder groups play a role in the continued success of the school,” said Kilby School Director, Dr. Chris James.   “A score of 99 on a report card isn’t possible without the support of parents, teachers and the UNA community. Our students are to be commended for their effort and drive to continually improve.”

Twenty-six Alabama schools scored 99 or higher on the report.  A total of 1,247 schools were measured within the state, with only 2 percent of the schools in the state scoring 99 or higher.

Kilby Laboratory School is the only laboratory school in Alabama and serves as a site for University students to engage in meaningful interdisciplinary teaching, research and service opportunities.
