William Robert “Bob” Wilson, age 57, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Feb. 4, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on January 11th on Bailey Springs Road. Bob was a man who lived out his faith in Jesus Christ and is now with Him. Bob was a faithful member and servant of Florence Baptist Church.

Bob was born on Aug. 7, 1960, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He attended Rogers High School, the University of Alabama-Huntsville, and earned his bachelor’s degree in religious education from the Florida Baptist Theological College in Marianna, Florida. Bob’s greatest passion was found in teaching others about Christ using the scriptures. He was a master chef and loved cooking and woodworking with his father in his dad’s basement. Bob wore shorts year-round and kept a trademark toothpick behind his ear. Bob was also known for his massive library and collection of hot sauces.

Bob had an infectious smile and never met a stranger. While traveling he always had to “seek out the locals” and learn a new recipe. Bob simply loved people and telling them about Jesus Christ. His desire to help people is further evidenced through the donation of various organs as well as his body for science and research.

Bob is survived by his loving children, Colin Wilson, of Boulder, Colorado, and Karly Wilson, of Tuscaloosa; parents, Charlie and Allene Wilson, Florence; sisters, Mechelle Thomas (Terry), Killen, and Gini Bishop (Billy), Killen; uncle and aunt, Jim and Francis Vardaman, Florence; aunts, Jeanette Johnson, Muscle Shoals, and Gail Vardaman, Pine Bluff, Arkansas; uncles, Ray Vardaman (Mary), of Tyler, Texas, and Gene Wilson (Gloria), of Birmingham; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Deidre Kicker Schad; grandparents, Chester and Inez Wilson and Robert and Geneva Vardaman; and uncle, Doyle Vardaman.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Florence Baptist Church with Phillip Skipworth presiding. Bob’s family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Bob’s family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the hundreds of people who reached out in loving kindness over the past three weeks. A special “thank you” is extended to the first responders from the Killen Fire and Rescue Unit, Mid-Lauderdale EMTs, North Alabama Med-Flight Service, and the entire staff of doctors and nurses at the Huntsville Hospital Trauma Unit.

Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the following: Killen Fire and Rescue Squad (Volunteer Fire Deptartment), P.O. Box 27, Killen, AL., 35645 and the Mid-Lauderdale EMT Unit, 4500 Co. Rd. 47, Florence, AL., 35634.

Williams Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Bob Wilson was a tremendous encourager to both those who knew him as well as strangers. In reference to his faith in Christ and people, Bob was always quick to say, “It’s about Him and them.”
