Robert “Bob” Haynes Iverson, 83, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018. He was born on April 26, 1934 to parents, Cliff Iverson and Eva Haynes Iverson. Bob married the love of his life, Louise Smith Iverson. They spent 63 amazing years together. During this union they had two sons, Walter Iverson and Jody Iverson. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother.

Bob enjoyed his career at Gulf Oil for 31 years, so much so, that he bought a service station in Decatur that is now known as Iverson Gulf Service. He spent 30 years as owner and operator of Iverson’s. Bob enjoyed helping people. He believed that a station was put into a location to help people, and that is just what he did daily. People would stop by just to have a conversation with him. He treated everyone the same, no matter their walk in life. Bob helped with the Committee On Church Cooperation by providing gas to help people get back and forth to their doctor appointments in Birmingham. He eased their worry of transportation, so they could focus on their health. Bob and his son, Jody, were voted Citizen of the Year by the Rotary Club. In his later years, Bob developed a love for reading and crossword puzzles. He made frequent trips to Books-A-Million to gather books. Bob will be truly me missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; son, Walter Iverson; grandson, Colt Iverson; and sister, Nancy Jordan.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Smith Iverson; son, Jody Iverson ( Kim); grandsons, Phoneix Iverson (Haley), Noah Iverson (Lauren), Cole Iverson (Sarah), Deacon (fiancé Lizzy); and sister, Jean Wright.

The family requests that donations be made to the Committee on Church Cooperation.

A Celebration of Life for Bob will be on Monday, February 5, 2018, at Roselawn Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Visitation will begin prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
