Mrs. Rebecca Jean Cunningham-Barnett, 49, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, at her residence.

Memorial services will be noon Saturday, Feb. 3, at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Florence .

Rebecca Jean Cunningham-Barnett was born Dec. 4, 1968, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the daughter of Johnnie Floyd Cunningham Sr. and the late Hattie Smith Cunningham, and the late Roberta Jackson Cunningham; daughter-in-law of Samuel and Ruth Barnett; and granddaughter of Rebecca Jean Peters Smith and Pete Savage. Rebecca was preceded in death by her grandparents, Reverend Lewis and Clovina Cunningham and Albert T. Smith Sr., amd brother, Reverend Antonio Gaines.

Ree confessed to Christ at an early age and was faithfully in attendance at Trinity Baptist Church of Florence, Alabama. She attended A.H. Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama. After moving to Florence, she attended Bradshaw High School and was a cheerleader. Rebecca also attended National Career College. She was employed by the city of Muscle Shoals as a revenue officer for 17 years.

She was a classy lady with a contagious smile. Rebecca’s passions were decorating, going to the beach, shopping, spending time with her family, and fighting breast cancer. From the first day of her initial diagnosis, she had a positive attitude and winning spirit.

You never saw her without a smile on her face, and she always dressed like she stepped out of a magazine. She was a friend and confidant to many ladies battling breast cancer, and she participated in many breast cancer-related events. Rebecca won the ultimate battle against breast cancer; she earned her wings to be with the Lord. As Rebecca would always say #cancersucks…but it always made her stronger.

She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted husband of 29 years, Kelvin Barnett, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; son, Tevin Barnett; daughter, Ebani Barnett; siblings, Minister Belinda (Jonathan) Baugh, Johnnie Jr. (Vanessa) Cunningham, Sherri (Daron) Poole, Tammy Asher, and Reginald Cunningham; three sisters-in-law, Judge Renita Barnett-Jefferson, Tangela Butler, and Deanne Barnett; three brothers-in-law, Quinton Jefferson, Terrell Butler, and Sedric Barnett; 12 nieces; four nephews; three great-nieces; and two great-nephews; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
