Larry Rutledge – Obituary

 Larry Rutledge, 72, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at his residence. Funeral service will be today, Feb. 1, 2018, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Reverend Roger Jenkins an Reverend Jonathon Nkosi officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be at Burningtree Cemetery. Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home is directing the funeral.

He taught adult Sunday School at First Baptist Church, Decatur for over 40 years, worked with youth and children in the church, and faithfully served as a deacon, visiting widows and shut-ins and serving on various church committees. He started the Health Occupations program at Austin High school, worked in Teacher Corps, traveling and doing training for teachers across the country, and served as the principal of Dowling Junior High School in Cullman County until he retired. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivor include wife, Ann Richardson Rutledge; sons, Rodney Rutledge and Wife, Tess, Reverend Jonathon Nkosi and wife, Linda; daughter, Julie Ann Burch; brother, Ricky Rutledge; sister, Sara Rutledge; grandchildren, Virginia, Gracie, Abbi, Josiah, Marianna, David; nephew, Rush Rutledge; and niece, Haley Rutledge.
