Freeman Eual Blackwood – Obituary

Funeral service with full military honors for Freeman Eual Blackwood, 86, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 28th, 2018 at Cullman Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Simcoe Methodist Cemetery, Rev. Eric Martin and Dr. David Chambers officiating.

Cullman Funeral Home, Hwy. 278 East is in charge of the arrangements.

Eual passed away January 25th, 2018 at Floyd E. “Tut” Fann Veterans Home in Huntsville, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert David Blackwood and Virginia Estelle Martin Blackwood; brothers, Ray and Billy Ray; sisters, Ruth White, Gearldene Goodwin, Sylvia Taylor; brothers-in-law, Perry White, Jack Johnson, Joe Taylor; sister-in-law, Virginia Blackwood.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Hilda Blackwood; son, Tobby (Debbie) Blackwood; two granddaughters, Tova Lindsey, Tiffany (Christopher) Nash; four great great grandchildren, Atticus and Athena Lindsey, Jordan and Colton Nash; sisters, Fay Nell (Jim) Rosenbalm, Nedra (Kenneth) Smith; brother-in-law, Leon Goodwin; sister-in-law, Betty Blackwood.

Eual attended St. Bernard College, Puget Sound College in Washington State; graduated from Wallace State in cabinet and furniture making.

Eual served in the United States Air Force for 20 years in engineering refrigeration and air conditioning, traveled many states with family, three tours overseas, Libya, North Africa, Oson, Korea and Da-Nang, Vietnam. After retirement, he and his family spent 22 years on their cattle and poultry farm in the Brookland Community. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends and restoring old cars. Eual was a member of Seventh Street Baptist Church and enjoyed working in different churches over the years. He loved God and people. To know him was to love him. Eual worked with the Gideons a short time before becoming a victim of Alzheimers.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s research at ALZ.org or the Gideons International.

Visitation will be Saturday evening at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m.
