Ernestine Daniels – Obituary

Ernestine Daniels, 94, of Huntsville, passed away on Jan 21.. Born in Astoria, Queens, NY, she graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from Brooklyn College and an M.S. in Chemistry from Columbia University. Her career included a ten-year stint as the Editor of the Journal of the American Petroleum Institute while writing technical abstracts from Russian, German, and French journals. In her 40’s she returned to Hunter College, City of New York to obtain an M.A. in Linguistics and obtained the first PhD in Linguistics ever granted by the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

In 1983, she moved to Chattanooga, TN and in 2000, relocated once again to Huntsville to be closer to her family.

Mrs. Daniels is survived by her son, Fred Tamm-Daniels (Ana), Huntsville, AL, grandson Rik Tamm-Daniels (Damaris) of Redwood Shores, CA, Inge Tamm-Daniels, Denver, CO, and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be to Temple B’nai Sholom or Alley Cat Allies.
