Samuel “Roger” Johnson – Obituary

The funeral service and viewing for Samuel “Roger” Johnson, “Paw-paw,” 79, of Arley will be on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Collins-Burke Funeral Home in Jasper with Brother Thomas Hyche and Nephew, Bobby Smith officiating. Guests are welcome from 11:30-12:30, and the service will follow at 12:30 p.m.  His burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery with his family.

Mr. Johnson was born May 9,1938, in Winston County to Troy and Christine Johnson . He passed away peacefully at his home during the evening of January 9th.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by two of his children, Troy Roger Johnson and Rita Faye Johnson, his parents Troy and Christine Johnson, his brother Carol Johnson, and two grandparents-Martin and Leoni Key.

He was known by his surviving family as a hard worker. He loved logging and working on his farm.  Other hobbies included: Caring for his animals and enjoying time under his shade tree. He loved being outside and tinkering on equipment.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Calloway Johnson, his two daughters- Phillis Johnson and Anita Jo (Larry) Hatchcoat, one son, Phillip Johnson, of Arley, one sister, Avelyn Smith of Jasper, and brother Gale (Vickie) Johnson of Arley; six grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

The Pallbearers for the service include: Winn Williams, Travis Abshire, Bobby Smith, and Jason Ennis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to his expenses at Collins-Burke Funeral Home.
