Evelyn Wright Hammond, 92, of Rogersville died peacefully Sunday, January 7,
2018 at Whitesburg Gardens in Huntsville. She was a member of West
Rogersville Church of Christ, and a retired cosmetologist, seamstress, poet
and author. She was the last surviving member of her family of twelve
siblings, five sisters and six brothers.
Survived by her children, Eddie Hammond (late wife Willodean), Gina Butler
(husband Mike), and Marsha Slyman (husband David). Six grandchildren – Brad
Hammond (wife Tanya), Zach Thomas (wife Ashley), Erin Thomas (husband
Cahalen Morrison), Annie Thomas, Abby Slyman, and Tripp Slyman; and forty
nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elgin Volunteer Fire and
Rescue Department (150 Tracey Lane, Rogersville, AL 35652). These dedicated
volunteers provide help and emergency assistance to so many in our community
and enabled her time at home to be extended.
Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 Friday, January 12 with service following at
11:00 at Elkins Chapel East.
