FLORENCE – The model for the fourth original sculpture depicting The Shoals’ musical heritage was presented Thursday at the Kennedy-Douglas Center for the Arts.

Florence Mayor, Steve Holt introduced University of Alabama sculptor, Eric Nubbe who designed and will build the work. The statue, a 20-foot tall semi-abstract work, represents a blues musician. In the tradition of the other sculptures in Sheffield and Muscle Shoals, the musician is not a rendition of any particular musician, but a representation of a particular style of the music that emanates from our area.

Nubbe described the style of metal work and his vision for constructing the statue which will be fabricated from aluminum.

The statue is expected to be completed and unveiled this year as part of Florence’s 200th Bicentennial celebration.
