FLORENCE-The Florence Police Department released a statement concerning the two-vehicle accident that occured on Saturday, December 30:

“On 12/30/2017 Officers with the Florence Police Department along with Florence Fire and Shoals Ambulance service responded to a traffic accident involving injuries on North Wood Ave next to Big Star. When officers arrived they found a vehicle stopped in the north bound lane of Wood Ave and another vehicle that ran off the roadway and over a culvert with a 25 foot drop. Several citizens were in the creek bed working to roll the car over so the driver, Stanley Shipper 88yoa, would not drown. His vehicle had landed upside down and he was trapped inside of it. Mr. Shipper was freed from the vehicle once FFD and EMS arrived. He was then airlifted to Huntsville Hospital. The driver of the second vehicle, Daisy Oakley 55yoa, was transported to EMC Hospital by ambulance.

Mr. Stanley is currently still in the hospital but is expected to be released this week. Ms Oakley was treated at ECM and release the same day. The accident is still under investigation by Florence Police Accident Investigators.”
