Ruth Drake Young – Obituary

Ruth Drake Young, 88, stepped into eternity to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 19, 2017. She was born to James Allen Drake, Sr. and Myrtle Haydock Drake on January 26, 1929 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As a young girl, Ruth moved with her family to Verona to be close to relatives. In 1948, she graduated from Verona High School and married the love of her life, Samuel Smythe Young. As a homemaker, Ruth raised two children, Janice Young Evans of Plantersville and Jeffrey Smythe Young (Sharron) of the Auburn Community. Once her children were older, she attended the Licensed Practical Nursing School with the hospital in Tupelo where she was a member of the second graduating class. She was a faithful member in the First Baptist Church of Verona until her passing. She loved her community and was often seen walking and enjoying the outdoors.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; her sisters, Jamie Gillentine, Marie Curran and Lucille Burleson, and her son-in-law David Hudson Evans, Jr. She leaves behind her two children and three grandchildren, Jason Evans and Clay Evans (Ashley) all of Plantersville and Ginger Evans of Atlanta, Georgia. She also leaves behind her brother, James Allen Drake, Jr. of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
A celebration of life will be held 2 PM Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Dunlap officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12 – 2. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Rogers, Joe Sandoval, Mike Watson, Scotty West, Gene Williams and Gary Wood.
