RUSSELLVILLE-The Mazie Kraize Corn Machine held a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, December 20.

Franklin County ALFA Board Member Thomas Murray will begin operations Wednesday, December 20 2017 with his new corn vending machine.

Maize Craize, LLC, was founded in 2016 by Jason Spiller and Ben Burleson. The company’s goal is to provide customers the ability to sell several products directly without the need to package them.

This is truly an innovative project that allows the public to buy directly  from the farmer who produced the corn. Marion County ALFA Board member Ben Burleson and his partner erected the machine for Maize KRAIZE on the site. This is the only machine of its type that is approved in the State of Alabama for selling corn.

Murray’s machine is the first to enter operations in Alabama. Murray, a board member of the Alabama Farmers Federation, will sell the first bag of corn to Sen. Gerald Dial (R-Lineville), who was instrumental in getting the machine approved in Alabama. According to Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow (D-Red Bay), Dial asked to be allowed to purchase the first corn from the very first legal corn machine in Alabama.

The event was marred with rain but the ribbon was cut and the Mazie Kraize was set into action

The site of the machine is at mile post 30 on State of Alabama Highway 24 (approximately 3 miles east of Russellville). This is also the intersection for Franklin County Highway 77 and Alabama Highway 24.

According to the company’s web site, www.maizekraize.com, the machine allows farmers the opportunity to automate their existing equipment to sell directly to consumers from their home, farm or other locations.

Thanks also to Cassie Medley and the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce for arranging the ribbon cutting ceremony
