Justice League: A Movie Review

I went and saw the Justice League movie this weekend.  I wanted to write a review for it.  First off, if you have not seen the movie and are planning on it, please stop reading.  There are spoilers ahead.

****************************SPOILER ALERT****************

You have been warned.   Overall, I liked the movie.  Let me start off by saying I have been a DC Comics person my whole life.  I saw Wonder Woman and Batman vs Superman, and to tell the truth didn’t really care for either one.  Both movies just got away from the original comics.

Justice League picks up at the end of both of the above mentioned movies.  Superman was killed at the end of Batman vs Superman.    Batman fears that an attack by an alien race is coming.  Wonder Woman, confirms his theory.  The movie starts with the “Mother Boxes.” Being the main topic of the movie.      These boxes have power and can connect passage through to other worlds via a “Boom Tube”.

Eons ago, the three “Mother Boxes” were on Earth.  The main villain in the movie, Steppenwolf, sought to reacquire these boxes to use them as a destroyer of worlds.  The Altaians, The Amazons, The Green Lantern Corps and Humans fought and defeated Steppenwolf.  The three boxes were separated and the Altaians, Amazons and Humans each took a box and hid it, hopefully never to worry about an attack for them again.

Steppenwolf has returned and wants the three Boxes.  He takes the one from the Altaians

and the Amazons, before starting to look for the one that the Humans have.

Jason Momoa as Aquaman

Batman and Wonder Woman began a search for fellow heroes to form a team to battle Steppenwolf.  Batman speaks to Arthur Curry ( Aquaman) who refuses to join the team.  Batman then speaks to Barry Allen (The Flash) who quickly joins the team.  Wonder Woman speaks to Victor Stone (Cyborg) who is reluctant but does join the team.

The team meets Steppenwolf in battle and does

Ezra Miller as Flash

not fair very well.  Aquaman joins the battle after he learns that his home of Atlantis has been attacked by Steppenwolf during the theft of the “Mother Box. “.   The team regroups back at the Bat Cave to try and figure out how to defeat Steppenwolf.  The idea to use the last “Mother Box” to bring the Last Son of Krypton, Superman, back to life is brought up.  The team does not agree that it is the greatest idea but agrees to try.

Ray Fisher

As everyone knows by looking at the internet, Superman is brought back to life for the final battle.  I am not going to give away the ending.  I have to say that I really enjoyed this movie.  Much better than Wonder Woman as well as Batman vs Superman.     Is it a perfect movie, no, there are some things that get away from the comic books.  Let’s talk about them.

Cyborg was not an original member of the

Ben Affleck as Batman

Justice League.  He was a member of the Teen Titans.  While he has a good presence in this movie and the movie would have not worked without him.  My thing is staying true to the original comic books.

Green Lantern.  Hal Jordon (Green lantern) was one of the founding members of the Justice League.  He is not present in this movie.  However, in the beginning of the movie with the original battle of Steppenwolf, there is a brief glimpse of a Green Lantern who is killed and a close up shot of his ring.  A Green lantern should have been a main character.   No matter if

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

it was Hal Jordon, John Stewart or even Guy Gardner.

Darkseid is one of the biggest villains in the DC Comics universe.  Steppenwolf is a relative and an ambassador for Darkseid.  In the Justice League movie, Darkseid is mentioned one time and that is it.  What if Darkseid had made an appearance in the end of the movie to set up the sequel for the Justice League movie?

The Justice League movie has not gotten good reviews.  I don’t know why.  I enjoyed it

Henry Cavill as Superman

more than other DC Comic based movies.  You should see it and make your own decision.   I

have never been a real big Aquaman fan but Jason Momoa does a great job as Aquaman.  He adds humor to the movie.  Take a chance and go see it.  I think you will like it.

P.S.  Make sure you stay for the closing credits.  About half way through the credits is a humorous clip with flash and superman.

P.S.S.   Make sure you stay ALL THE WAY through the closing credits.  There is a surprise appearance at the very end.
