Greg Allen Coons – Obituary

Greg Allen Coons, 66, of Athens, assended to Heaven December 10, 2017. Born on November 11, 1951 in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of a civil engineer who designed aircraft for the military. He lived all over the U.S. enjoying the desert of Nevada as his favorite place. Greg retired from World Linc, Corporation as Vice President of Operations for North Alabama. Licensed as a Realtor in 2005, he worked with his wife at RE/MAX Madison and later at Crye-Leike Realtors, Athens through 2014.

Greg will be remembered as a well read, confident, soft spoken man with a deep faith in God and a dry sense of humor that everyone loved. He enjoyed fishing, coaching and playing baseball. Once you were his friend you were always his friend. Greg was a joyful member of Clements Baptist at the Creek.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Sandy Coons; children, Chris and wife, Dawn of Lawrenceville, Georgia and daughter, Gabrielle; Larry Coons of Hobbs, New Mexico and daughters, Haley and Lynsey; Heather Turner of Atlanta, Georgia and Grands Austin and Amber; Geoffrey and wife, April of Marietta, Georgia and Michael and wife, Kayla and daughter, Elliott of Marietta, Georgia. Also stepsons, Tim Cox and Ben Cox and wife, Keri from Athens. Greg was preceded by his brother, Larry Coons; and parents, Jack A and Jacqueline Starbird Coons.

Celebration service will be held at McConnell Funeral Home on Saturday at 2 p.m. Visitation at 1 p.m. with Rev. Tim Anderson and Dr. Ray Hutchison officiating.

In lieu of flowers, send donations to Neighbors and Nations Missions at Central Baptist Church or to Tears at 3614 NE 50th Ave. Portland, OR 97213 marked “Palms UP.”
