JoAn McKinnon was born December 13, 1937 in Henderson, TN and died in her home December 6, 2017, after a long illness.

She was the daughter of the late J B Cooper and Bessie Hunter Cooper. After graduating from high school in 1956, she moved to the big city of Memphis to find a job. However, she did not stay long until her sweetheart came and brought her back home. She married him after dating for only three months. Bernard McKinnon and JoAn were wed on June 27, 1956 at Corinth, Mississippi.

She worked for a time at Griffin Flower Shop, with a dear couple, Warren and Pearl Griffin. She also had the honor to work as an eye-glass technician for an outstanding optometrist, Dr. Orman Campbell. She opened her own franchise of Merle Norman in November of 1969. Starting her business on South Washington Street, she had cosmetics and offered a line of hairpieces and wigs, which were a fashion statement in the 1970’s. She later had the opportunity to move to Main Street to the present location of Merle Norman Cosmetics & Gifts. She owned and operated her business for forty-five years. She was always ready to meet and greet everyone that came into the store, loving every minute.

She was always trying to help women succeed and was instrumental in getting a local chapter of Business and Professional Women’s Club started here in Henderson. She was also a charter member of the Chester County Chamber of Commerce.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church for 57 years, until her health failed her.

Mrs. McKinnon is survived by her husband of sixty one years, Bernard, and her daughter, Annette and husband Ken Frye, and her son, Randy and wife Sherrye McKinnon of Henderson; two grandchildren, Emily Frye of Lexington, TN, Adam Frye and wife Megan Frye of Henderson, TN; one great-granddaughter, Tori Ann Frye and one more on the way. She is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Skelly of Garland, TX; Evelyn Miles and husband Sammy Miles of Corinth, MS; Sandra Davis and husband Jacks Davis of Henderson, TN; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Daryl McKinnon; two brothers, Winford Cooper and David Cooper.
