Funeral service for Max Slate, 89, of Hartselle, will be Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Walter Blackman officiating. Burial will be in Hartselle Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Slate died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born March 11, 1928, in Morgan County to Murphy Slate and Marie Hutson Slate. Mr. Slate was a U.S. Marine veteran. He was a member of East Highland Baptist Church for many years. Max loved gardening and yard work. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Randle Slate; his second wife, Nelda Slate and a son, Jerry R. Slate.
Survivors include one son, Jimmy Slate (Kathie), Hartselle; two brothers, Jack Slate, Thatch, Alabama, and Joe Hutson Slate (Rachel), Hartselle; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
