Zigmund “Zig” James Roebuck – Obituary

Zigmund “Zig” James Roebuck, age 74, of Huntsville, passed away Thursday at Huntsville Hospital.  Zig was born the youngest of three boys to parents Zigmund and Josephine Roebuck, and raised in Wilkes-Barre PA.  A high school graduate of Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), Zig continued his Army based education graduating from The United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in 1965 and received a Master of Science Degree from the University of Arkansas in 1972.

After 26 years of service in the U.S. Army, he retired in 1990 at the rank of Colonel. During his years of service, Zig served as an Air Defense Officer commanding at the battery level in Vietnam and at the battalion and brigade levels at Ft. Lewis, WA.  After his retirement, Zig served as the President of the West Point Society of the Tennessee Valley from 1992-2004.  He also served as the President of the AUSA Third Region receiving recognition for exemplary service in 2011.

Zig was preceded in death by his daughter, Lindsey Elizabeth Roebuck; his parents, Zigmund and Josephine; and a brother, Joseph Merlie.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda (Moseley) Roebuck; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Huntsville United Church on Whitesburg Drive, Monday, December 4 at 1:00 PM with a reception to follow. Rev. Sam Greening, pastor of United Church and Rev Susan Richardson, a pastor at Christ Church in Philadelphia, PA (Mr. Roebuck’s niece) will be officiating.
