Morgan County ABC Agent Indicted On 12 Federal Felony Charges

MONTGOMERY-An Alabama Alcohol Beverage Control agent has been indicted on 12 felony charges, including allegations of using his state law enforcement position for personal gain.  Steven Wrea Ziaja was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on Tuesday, November 28 after being indicted according to court records.

Ziaja, 39 is from Morgan County and worked as an ABC agent employed by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.  According to court records Ziaja has been released on a bond of $30,000.00.

The indictments were made public on Thursday, November 30 accuse Ziaja of obtaining multiple people’s personal information from the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center using state computers. The Center’s database includes information from the National Crime Information Center, also known as NCIC. The information is available to law enforcement for investigative and official business purposes.

Court papers do not state the reason for Ziaja taking the records.  The information was considered confidential…not public, the indictments state.

Ziaja was indicted on 11 counts of computer tampering and one count of using his position as a law enforcement officer for personal gain, according to the indictments.  Each computer tampering charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and use of office for personal gain is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
