Maria de la Cruz Alicea Sanchez age 89 of Huntsville, formerly of Puerto Rico, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017. She was born July 3, 1928 to Juan Alicea and Ramona Sanchez in Utuado, Puerto Rico. Mrs. Alicea was a follower of Christ and a devoted Christian, unwavering of her beliefs. She loved her church, Weatherly Assembly of God in Huntsville. She was a woman of character, an adventurer, a leader, an entrepreneur, a writer, a singer, a fighter and a very strong woman. She was involved with the girl scouts for about twenty years in Puerto Rico and played the Puerto Rican lottery as her hobby. She was an avid reader and loved to sing religious hymns. Mrs. Alicea was always willing to help others and loved her family very much.

Mrs. Alicea is survived by her sons Ramon E. (Ivelisse) Salgado and Carlos F. Salgado – Alicea, daughter Yolanda S. (Ivan) Martinez, thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Enrique Salgado, daughter Isabel Salgado, son Roberto Salgado, great grandson Josiah, three brothers and six sisters.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, November 30th at 1:00 PM at Weatherly Road Assembly of God in Huntsville with Rev. Nick Martinez officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 29th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Hampton Cove Funeral Home and Thursday before the service at the church from 11:30 AM until the service at 1:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Carlos Salgado, Ivan Martinez, Nick Martinez, Robbie Holder, Dan Atchison and Benaiah Atchison.
