James Barry Halford Sr. – Obituary

Graveside service for James Barry Halford Sr., 80, will be Saturday November 25, 2017 at Hartselle City Cemetery at 11:00am with Rev. Bobby Ray Halbrooks officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.  Visitation will be Friday November 24, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 at Peck Funeral Home.

 

Barry died Monday November 20th at Huntsville Hospital.  He was born July 13, 1937 in Belzoni, MS to J.R. and Nettie Abel Halford.

 

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Carolyn Henderson Halford; one son James Barry Halford, Jr. (Leanne) of Ocean Springs MS; one daughter Lee Blakeney (Fred) of Baton Rouge LA; three grandchildren Hal Halford, Benjamin Blakeney, and Amanda Blakeney; one sister Rita Lott (Buddy) of Starkville MS and a special “Sharpley” girl; Lou Ann Logan Stephenson (Douglas) of Hartselle.

 

Barry graduated from Mississippi State University in 1959 and moved to North Alabama in 1962 where he worked in the computer software industry for Boeing Computer Support Services and Computer Science Corporation until retiring in 2003.  He spent much of the 1970’s coaching youth baseball and football in Hartselle.  He was a member of the original Hartselle City School Board when the city school system formed.  During his 16 year tenure on the board he served as Chairman and Vice-Chairman.  His work on the school board was one of his proudest accomplishments.

 

Honorary Pallbearers will be John Ford and David Buckelew.  Pallbearers will be Blake Tanner, Grad Tanner, Randall Key, Larry Fields, Johnny Buckelew, and Fletcher Ford.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Good Samaritan Fund or a charity of your choice.
