Porter Ray Wooten – Obituary

Porter Ray Wooten, 91, of Madison, passed away Tuesday. Mr. Wooten was a veteran of WWII, U.S. Merchant Marines (Dept. of Navy) from 1943 to 1945. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947 where he was stationed in Alaska. From 1947 through 1980, he worked at Chrysler Corporation in the Electrical Fabrication Department. Mr. Wooten was a charter member of Madison Baptist Church, where he served as a past deacon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Sue Wooten.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Wooten; daughter, Mary LaRue Owens (Jerry); son, Dennis Ray Wooten (Patricia), all of Madison; step-son, Guy Edwards (Pam) of Huntsville; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Catherine Wooten Lawson of Greenville, AL, and Rebecca Wooten (Charles) of Fredericksburg, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, November 17 at Madison Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with Dr. Michael D. Allison officiating.  Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
