Darryl P. Witherspoon – Obituary

Mr. Darryl P. Witherspoon, age 57, a resident of Lewisburg, departed this life on Thursday, November 9, 2017 due to congestive heart failure.

 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 5:30PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. James Coure officiating. A visitation will also be held on Friday from 4:30-5:30 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Darryl Phillip Witherspoon affectionally known as “Pee Wee” and “Spoon” was born December 3, 1959 in Detroit, Michigan.  The youngest of seven children, Darryl was the son of the late Solomon Witherspoon Sr. and Sarah Alice Wilson Witherspoon.

 

Darryl worked at the family Witherspoon Service Station as a mechanic and drove tow trucks along with working at Waynes Service Station in Detroit, Michigan before moving to Columbia, Tennessee where he retired from Coure Masonry Company in Franklin, Tennessee.

 

Spoon received his education at Osborne High School where he was a Knight.  He served in the United States Army National Guard and was discharged in 1990.

 

He joined the Choir at Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church.  Spoon loved to work on cars, race motorcycles, and he loved to cook and raise a community garden.  He was also enrolled at Columbia State Community College before he became ill.

 

He leaves behind to mourn one daughter: Danielle P. Witherspoon; one grandson Antwan; and one granddaughter Bethany of Detroit, Michigan; five siblings: Gail Sandles of Columbia, Tennessee, Belinda Cook of Stockton, California, Solomon Witherspoon Jr. (Patricia) of Detroit, Michigan, Annie E. Witherspoon of Lewisburg, Tennessee, David Witherspoon (Sheila) of Columbia, Tennessee; three sisters/cousins: Robin, Alice, Tamera and their spouses and children; one uncle James Paul Witherspoon (Doris) of Clarksville, Tennessee; two aunts: Ruth Witherspoon of Detroit, Michigan, Willie Pearl Lockridge of Denver, Colorado; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He also leaves behind Mom’s and Pop’s, The Detroit Family, The Franklin Family, The Osborne High School Family, The Military Family, The Lewisburg Family and his Best Pal Jeffrey Hannah of Columbia, Tennessee.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Witherspoon.
