Surrounded by the love of her family and comforted by the love of her Savior, Kathyrine Irene “Rene” Malone Springer, 82, of Metropolis, formerly of Athens, AL, passed peaceably from this life at 10:52pm on Saturday, November 4, 2017.

Rene cherished spending time with her family. She loved to cook and bake for her family and her church family. She was known especially for her chocolate pies and chicken and dumplings, which she was frequently asked to make for church meals. Rene enjoyed coffee on her deck and she could watch her hummingbirds for hours. Her strong faith persevered throughout her entire life. She had a lovely voice and loved to sing hymns. Singing hymns was a great source of comfort to her, even in her final hours of life, as she continually sang “Shall We Gather At the River” and “Amazing Grace”. It was a beautiful witness to others of her love for her savior and her savior’s love for her.

Rene was retired from Sears and a member of the Enon Baptist Church in Athens, AL.
