Celebrate The Father Of The Blues, Two Free Events

FLORENCE-You’re invited! Two events celebrating the birthday of the “Father of the Blues” are coming up!  First join us Thursday, November 16 from 11:00 – 2:00 at the W.C. Handy Home and Museum, 620 West College Street, Florence for free cake, punch, and indoor music by Reddick Pernell Cunningham. Then join us for a free outdoor concert by The Mary Mason Band on Saturday, November 18 at noon – 3:00. Admission is free both days! The concert will be on the front porch of the cabin, so bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets.

The “Father of the Blues,” William Christopher Handy, was born in Florence, Alabama on November 16, 1873. He was band conductor, a solo trumpet performer, author, and the composer of such blues classics as the Memphis BluesSaint Louis Blues, and Beale Street Blues.
