Athens Police Arrest Suspect After Scuffle…Suspect Charged With Assult 2nd Degree

ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement concerning the arrest of a suspect on Monday, October 30.  The suspect has been charged with Assault 2nd Degree and FTA:

“This morning the police department received a call of a person in a residence on West Hobbs Street trespassing. The person left before officers arrived. Dispatchers were able to give the responding officers a description of the person and advised officers the person had three warrants with our department for her arrest. Officer Jason Threet located the person on West Hobbs Street near Limestone Lodge. After briefly talking with her he asks her if she had and weapons on her. She told him she had a kitchen knife. She immediately put her hand on it and pulled it out of her pocket. Threet repeatedly told her to put the knife down, after a short period of time she did. She refused to obey any other commands and would not corporate with him. Officer Threet was able to get she hand and arm to gain control until back up could arrive. A short time later Officer Bobby Hand arrived and after a short scuffle they was able to hand cuff the female. While scuffing with the female Officer Hand had minor injuries to his hand face. The injuries didn’t require medical attention. Smith was not injured in the incident.
Tamara Smith was arrested and charged with second degree assault, failure to appear for driving while suspended, failure to appear for passing on the left and failure to appear leaving the scene of an accident. Smith was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
