Betty Evelyn Williams, 76, died Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Shoals Hospital in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. She was born January 21, 1941 in Haleyville, Alabama, to the late Henry and Lettie Tidwell. She married Max Williams on June 14, 1959 and he survives. Visitation will be Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 10-11 A.M. at First United Methodist Church with service to follow. Officiating will be Rudy Guess. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Henry Tidwell and Lettie Ann Norris; brother, Robert Wayne Tidwell; sisters, Jewel Lee Tidwell Aderholt; half-sisters, Eunice Fields and Amy Cooper.
Also surviving are her two children, Elizabeth Rogers (Patrick) of Madison, Alabama and Whit Williams (Ashley) of Austin, Texas; one grandson, Ryan Rogers and one granddaughter, Katherine Rogers; one special niece Dianne Miller, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Betty was a longtime resident of Tuscumbia, Alabama. She graduated from Haleyville High School in 1958 and from Muscle Shoals Technical School with a nursing certificate. She worked at Helen Keller Hospital during the 1980s before retiring. Betty attended First United Methodist Church of Tuscumbia, and had been a member since 1963. She was a member of Ethel Gary Sunday School class and also the United Methodist Women, taught Sunday school and Bible school, sang in the choir, and served with Shepherd’s Table.
Betty nurtured a lifelong love of both writing and history. She wrote often in her journals, published essays in the Colbert County Reporter and other periodicals, and was a proud member of DAR. She researched genealogy with her niece, Dianne, and surrounded herself with books to nourish her love of reading.
Betty was a loving, supportive mother and grandmother, a kindhearted, faithful friend, and a strong and devoted Christian. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her in these final weeks.
Pallbearers will be Joel Parris, Euel Cutshall, Don Fitts, Jimmy Spain, David Burcham, Roger Fuller, and Jerry Wilbanks.
