ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement concerning the arrest of a suspect charged in possessing pornographic images of children.  The investigation started in September of 2017:

“In the middle of September our department received a call at Wal-Mart of a person taking a picture of a young child in the men’s bathroom. Officer Mac McWhorter responded to the call and made contact with the store management. The officer was told a customer told him he walked into the men’s bathroom and saw a person holding a cell phone over one of the stalls like he was taking a picture or video. The customer told the manager he yelled for the man to stop and the man with the phone took off running. The customer identified the suspect to the manager. Officer McWhorter then confronted the male about the incident. After talking with the suspect Officer McWhorter took the cell phone into evidence.
Sgt. Brett Constable obtained a search warrant for the phone and had the contents of the phone analyzed. The results were several nude images of what appears to be children. Yesterday investigators with our department executed a search warrant at 602 10th Street. Investigators seized a computer and other evidence to be analyzed for any other evidence. Investigators also arrested Bradley Eugene Kelly on a warrant for possession of obscene matter. The charge was for images found on the cell phone as a result of the first search warrant. Kelly was transported to the police department where he was booked and then transferred to the county jail. The investigation into this case is continuing.”
