Witches Ride Family Afterparty

CREATE! Book Talk and Panel Discussion with Ronald Rand and Guests

Author and performer Ronald Rand will lead a panel discussion to celebrate his book CREATE!: How Extraordinary Artists Live to Create and Create to Live.The following panelists will engage in a discussion on creativity:

Martha Carpenter: One of America’s Celebrated Portrait Painters

Libby Jordan: Director-Florence Museums and Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts
Alyssa Ashley: Noted Singer/Musician of The KGB Band
Hugh Banks: Gifted Musican/Painter
Jerry Masters: One of the great Sound Engineers/Musician
Jan Masters: Needlepoint Master

CREATE! features over 100 interviews with artists, sharing insights on the process of creativity and the importance of the arts for humankind. The artists range from renowned local artists Martha Carpenter and Tim Stevenson to stars like Carol Burnett, Chaka Khan, Christopher Plummer, and Tony Randall. The book also includes over 150 full-color paintings and photographs.

Ronald Rand is an International Goodwill Cultural Ambassador who has been performing his solo play Let It Be Art! around the world for 16 years. He is also the co-author of Acting Teachers of America. For more information, call 256-764-6564, ext. 28.

National Novel Writing Month Write-In Sessions
Monday, November 6, 5:00-7:00 pm; Tuesday, November 14, 5:00-7:00 pm; Tuesday, November 21, 5:00-7:00 pm; Thursday, November 30, 12:00-7:00 pm

November is National Novel Writing Month! This international event challenges all writers to draft an entire novel during the month of November. The Shoals Wrimos are hosting a series of write-ins at FLPL. Just bring your laptop, device, or pen and notebook, and settle in for a writing session! (Remember, FLPL has free Wi-Fi, but you’ll need a library card to log in. If you don’t have a card, bring a photo ID to sign up for one). The November 6 and November 14 Write-ins will be in the Reading Room on the 2nd floor, and the November 21 and 30 Write-ins will be in the Conference Room on the 1st floor. On November 30, we will have a Last-Day Writing Marathon Session from 12-7 pm, so you can get to “The End”!

Can’t make it on any of these dates? FLPL still has plenty of tables and work areas for you to come by for your own writing session any time. For more information, call 256-764-6564, ext. 28.

Little Women Musical Preview

The University of North Alabama Department of Music is presenting the Broadway musical Little Women at Norton Auditorium on November 17 and 19, but you can get a free preview at FLPL! The cast will perform a 30-minute selection of songs from the show for this preview event. All ages are welcome! For more information about this preview, call 256-764-6564, ext. 28.
