Cornelia Valentine, 90, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, in a local nursing home.

She enjoyed fishing and gardening, but she really loved to spend time spoiling with her grandchildren. Cornelia lived in Arkansas for most of her life moving to Sulphur to be closer to her son and his family. She was a devoted nurse’s aide for Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing Home in Florence, Alabama for 27 years. To Cornelia, being a caregiver was more of a calling than a career.

Survivors include her son, Bobby Valentine and his wife, Sissy, of Sulphur; six grandchildren, Melissa Palmer and husband, Tommy, Tonya Lane and husband, DeWayne, Jerri Berry and husband, Matt, all of Alabama, Amy Derouen and husband, John, Aaron Valentine and wife, Melonie, and Anna Smith and husband, Alex, all of Sulphur; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; daughter-in-law, Brenda Valentine; and her sister, Delois O’Bryant.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Calvin Valentine; son, Dennis Valentine; brother, Bud Murphy; and an infant sister.

Honoring Cornelia’s wishes, cremation was entrusted to Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Pisgah Cemetery in Cloverdale, Alabama. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at johnsonrobisonfh.net.
