FLORENCE-The Florence Police Department released a statement concerning the hit-and-run accident that took the life of Kevin Allan Doherty on Friday, October 6:

    OCTOBER 10

“On October 6, 2017, at approximately 8:20 pm, Florence Police Officers responded to the area of Cloyd Blvd and Mall Rd to a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived, it was learned that 57 year-old, Kevin Allan Doherty, had been struck. Mr. Doherty was confined to a wheelchair and was known to travel to local businesses using his wheelchair. Mr. Doherty was traveling on Cloyd Blvd when he was struck. Mr. Doherty suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was flown to Huntsville Hospital. He died a short time later as a result of his injuries.

The vehicle left the scene without stopping and continued traveling east on Cloyd Blvd. Witnesses that observed the crash described the vehicle as a small SUV. Based on evidence collected from the scene, we believe that the vehicle is a 2005-2007 Ford Freestyle with front passenger’s side damage. Investigators have worked diligently through the weekend following several leads provided by the public. Help from the public has been excellent and is necessary in locating this vehicle.

We believe that someone in our community or someone in the automotive parts industry may have vital information. Our goal is to bring closure to Mr. Doherty’s family and our community in light of this tragic crash. Any Information that you may have will be helpful to this case.”
