Hugh Clinton Buckner – Obituary

Hugh Clinton Buckner, age 93, of Mt. Pleasant, a lifelong farmer of the Porter’s Chapel Community, passed peacefully at his home to be with his Lord on Monday, October 9, 2017 at his residence. He was married to the love of his life, Mary Anne, for 66 years prior to her passing away on November 19, 2010. Mr. Buckner was a member of Bethel Church of Christ for approximately 47 years and an elder for approximately 20 years. He was a graduate of Franklin High School.

Mr. Buckner is survived by his two sons Marvin (Janice) Buckner and William (Pam) Buckner, both of Mt. Pleasant, two daughters Gaile Flansburg of Lebanon and Shirley (Dallas) Sparks of Columbia, seven grandchildren Brian (Danielle) Buckner, Tracey Buckner, Darryl (Kristen) Sparks, Monica Sparks Cromer, Abram (Ashley) Flansburg, Bianca (Wes) Buckner Cherry and Mattie Flansburg Wood, and ten great-grandchildren Casson Buckner, Brennan Buckner, McKenna Buckner, Chase Cromer, Ashton Cromer, Noah Sparks, Rozelin Flansburg, Daniel Flansburg, Cade Cherry and Colin Cherry.

Mr. Buckner was preceded in death by his parents William Edmonson and Ocye Buckner, sister Lavergne Graham, brothers Edwin Noel Buckner and John Wesley Buckner, wife Mary Anne Church Buckner, and grandson William Jared Buckner.

Funeral services will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2017 with Brother Ed Murphy and Randy McNeece officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Brian Buckner, Darryl Sparks, Abram Flansburg, Casson Buckner, Brennan Buckner, Chase Cromer, Ashton Cromer and Wes Cherry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Schmidt, Tommy (Patricia) Smithson, Joe (Donna) Schmidt, John (Susan) Schmidt, Clem (Savantha) Fisher, Jimmy (Angela) Burgett, Carrie and Jenny, Pat (Sonny) Nelson, Jim Raine Family, Ralph Spann, Jack and Daisy White, Nita Neelley and Lou Anne Hartley, and members of the Bethel Church of Christ.

Special thanks go to Hospice Compassus staff especially to Mari and Tracy.

Special appreciation goes out to the devoted caregivers the last few years of service to our Mom (Georgia and Hannah) and Dad (Moriah, Mercy and Jacob Raine).
