Lawrence Douglas “Doug” King – Obituary

Lawrence Douglas “Doug” King, age 62, of Mt. Pleasant, went to his eternal home on Friday, September 29, at Maury Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Doug was born July 28, 1955 in Hohenwald, the son of the late Lawrence Kennedy King and Wilma Faye Bennett King. On September 14, 1985, he married Gwendolyn “Gwen” Hamilton King and they enjoyed 32 wonderful years together. Doug was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and had retired from the store room and maintenance departments of Cytec in Mt. Pleasant following 32 years of employment. He served as an elder at the Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Doug loved his church, was an avid UT football fan, enjoyed storytelling and could always make you laugh. He never met a stranger and loved talking to anyone he met. Doug was greatly loved by his family.

Survivors include his wife, Gwen King of Mt. Pleasant; children, Andrew Douglas King, Jonathan Dustin King, and Ashlee Marie King, all of Mt. Pleasant; special cousins, Linda Pearl Johns and Morris King along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services for Doug will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at the Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark King officiating. Burial will follow in the Bailey Cemetery.

The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Pallbearers will be Taylor Hamilton, Keith Matheny, Bradly McNeece, Michael Boshers, Chris King, Jimmy Haywood, Jerry Roberts, Curtis Haywood and George Whitwell, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be men of the Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church and past coworkers at Cytec.
