MUSCLE SHOALS – These drills are required every 3 years. Today, the North Alabama Regional Airport and Colbert County EMS conducted a drill to establish readiness in the event of an aircraft accident involving injuries. In addition to Colbert EMA, other agencies involved in the drill were the Muscle Shoals Police Department, Colbert County Sheriff’s Department, Helen Keller Hospital, Shoals Hospital, and several other local police agencies including Decatur Police. There was not an actual aircraft involved in the readiness exercise. Instead 2 buses, one from Northwest Shoals Community College and one from NACOLG, stood in for multi-passenger aircraft. Civilian volunteers from Northwest Shoals Criminal Justice and other organizations acted as victims. they were extricated from the faux-aircraft and were given on-site medical triage before being transported to local hospitals.

According to Barry Griffith, Airport Director, today’s drill was a success.
