Oliver Milton Carter – Obituary

Oliver Milton Carter was born Aug. 29, 1922, to Laura Alice Eldridge Carter and Oliver Granville Carter, Limestone County. He entered Heavenly rest Sept. 19, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Redding Carter; daughter, Jan Clemons (John); granddaughters, Julie Huismann (Scott), Katie Shell (Kyle); great-granddaughter, Emmie Ruth Shell; brothers, JV Carter and Bobby Carter; sister, Opal Sewell.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II – Pacific theater, Third Fleet, USS Flusser & USS Fitch. Naval missions were supply & R&R convoys in the South Pacific and mine sweeping to accompany the USS Missouri into Tokyo Bay for the 1945 surrender of Japan. He was a member of Austinville Church of Christ in Decatur. He loved playing golf and Alabama football. One of his favorite memories was winning the 1980 Decatur Country Club Golf Championship.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery.
